Happy Halloween little Pineapple

Every day life is sweeter with Kai in it.  Halloween was no exception.  In the morning, the little pineapple and I volunteered on post raising money for the FRG.  We came home form that and Kai practiced his low crawl.  He also played with Caspian and practiced his gentle. He also said "boo" to his Pa. After his afternoon nap, we headed to The Growing Keiki the local children's store as they were have 15% off for children in costume.  Kai was a crowd pleaser in his costume and came home with a new hat, onesie and t shirts.

For dinner we had our traditional creamy pumpkin soup.  Kai went trick of treating to two neighbors.  First to Benita and Arvil where he went in to see the kittens.  Then to Tim McGraw's stepmother's house.  They were all thrilled to see the little pineapple.  We only had two groups of kids come to the door about 16 children.  Kai really enjoyed seeing the children all dressed up.

Saturday Fun

Saturday morning we took family photos at Kaka'ako Beach Park in Honolulu.  I had purchased a Groupon in April with a photographer who took our maternity shots.  It was a 20 minute photo shoot which is about as long as Victor's attention span for pictures.  We scheduled the same photographer for family photos.

Cutest little baby ever
After the photo shoot, we spent some time walking around Waikiki.  We had a delicious brunch at the Surfrider on the veranda overlooking the ocean.  We also found 2 different opportunities to stick our head in the hole and take a picture.

Hawaii 5-0

Air conditioned porta pottys

Hawaii 5-0 truck

Sunset on the bike path
On Friday, Waialua was the backdrop for an upcoming episode of Hawaii 5-0.  They were filming a flashback scence for one of the characters on the farmland.  They brought in some old jeeps for the episode.  On our nightly walk to the beach we were able to get some photos.

Smiley Kai

Loving the Apple Store
Kai had a busy week.  On Monday, we went to a LLL meeting where I was able to make a pillow while Kai played with all the other babies.  He showed off his skill of rolling over and rolled across the room several times.  After that we went to our trial class at Gymboree.  We showed up for his class and Kai was the only baby registered.  He enjoyed the singing and the parchute.  I was not impressed with our trial we have 4 more classes to attend with our trial.

On Tuesday, we went to the Ala Moana Mall to get Victor's Macbook fixed.  Kai loved the Apple store.  We looked for clothes for him because his 9 month clothes are already getting tight but only found winter apparel. Yes, we were shopping in Hawaii and it was 86 and sunny out.

Wednesday Kai had his friend Anthony over for a playdate.  Anthony is about 18 months old so he showed Kai how the toddlers roll.  Then on Thursday, Kai went to a play group on Post with his friend Parker who is 4 months old.

Pumpkin Picking

This Sunday after our breakfast of eggs benedict with avocado, tomato and spinach we headed to the Leeward side to Alhona Farms.  We were pleasantly surprised to park at a multiple field pumpkin patch.  We have not been to a pumpkin patch this plentiful since Missouri 2005.  There were about 6 fields, a banana forest, hay rides, bouncers, pony rides, costumed people and fresh veggies.  It was also 86 degrees.

We already bought a giant pumpkin October 1 at the Waialua Farmer's Market.  We searched the fields for the perfect middle size pumpkin for me and baby pumpkin for baby Kai.  We achieved success on our endeavour and only spent $6 on pumpkins.

We did learn for next year to go early and wear close toe shoes.  It was hot and dusty.

In pinball related news, Victor purchased his 6th pinball.  He claims it is only to fix and sell but our garage still has 6 pinball machines in it.

Halloween Party

Cutest pineapple ever

Kai wondering why he has to wear all of this

Kai with his friends
Friday night was the 84th Engineer Battlion Halloween Party and Kai's first Halloween Party.  He debuted his Pineapple costume.  He was not a fan of the hat and kept kicking off his botties.  But he was absolutely adorable. He participated in a costume contest and won a ribbon for "Most Original Costume"  which he promptly tried to eat.  Kai had a great time seeing some of his friends and going trunk or treating.  It is nice to live in a climate where costumes are not covered by jackets.

5 months

Today Kai is 5 months old.  Everyday it seems like he is growing bigger and he is learning new things so quickly.  He has mastered rolling over and can move quickly.  He should be crawling very soon.  This morning Kai, Caspian and I went to Mokuleia Beach to try to take 5 month pictures.   This is the beach where they filmed Lost.  I did not watch the show but it may look familar if you did.  Kai can reach the sand from his bumbo now and that was fascinating to him to play with the texture and attempt to taste it.  I may try a second attempt tonight to get photos.  If not i will have to wait for this weekend when Victor can be a distraction.    I was able to get lots of smiles once we were back home and I was one of the more entertaining things in the room.

Girdwood

We drove the Seward Highway along the picturesque Turninagin Arm to Girdwood.  We went on a hike to the hand tram.  Kai and Mama only hiked 2 miles when a little guy became too cold to continue.  Victor went on by himself and we were able to warm up in the lodge.

Victor walking across the bridge
Kai was not a huge fan of his hat or gloves.  We kept him bundled and he was able to wear some of the clothes that had been given to him that are way to warm for Hawaii.  Kai was not as happy to put his shoe in his mouth while getting changed as he enjoys putting his toes in.

While in Anchorage, we were able to visit with some of my amazing co workers.  Unfortunately due to a conference we did not see the Fairbanks crew.  We did get to see some of our Army friends for a dinner at Spenard Roadhouse.

First Flight HNL- ANC

On October 11, 2011 after spending time in the lanai at the Honolulu aiport so Kai could admire all the leaves.  WE boarded the plane bound for Anchorage.  Kai nursed a bit before take off and then slept for the remaining 5 hours.  When we landed and they turned the lights on at 5am Alaska time or 3 am Hawaii time, Kai was all smiles to the other passengers.  Mama and Pa were exhausted.  Kai was agreeable on the return flight as well.

First time wearing pants
It was a gorgeous day in Anchorage, clear blue skys and yellow leaves still on the trees.  We were able to take a nice long walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

Perfect Hawaiian Weather

Kai being a big boy in his stroller
Once every six weeks, it is overcast in Waialua.  The blue sky and bright sun are hidden by clouds.  These are my favorite days despite being few and far between.  Our landlord likes to tell us that it never rains in Waialua like it does on the rest of the island.  On the occasionally cloudy day, I can se the rain on Mt Kaa'la from our house.

Kai is able to use his stroller without the aid of his car seat.  He is getting so big!

We took advantage of the "cool" (very relative here it was still 80F) and walked the whole family to the beach.  Kai was able to be uncovered and he loved watching the waves.  We saw a few turtles popping their heads out.  Kai has been practicing his roll overs and is becoming quite proficient.

The other adorable thing Kai does is fall alseep when we have people over to play the 5 pinballs machines. This is not quiet and provides flashing lights.  This does not phase Kai and he will still succumb to sleep.

Happy October

Happy October!  Fall is my favorite season and we have several visitors and fun adventures for the season, which is more akin to Endless Summer here.  Kai will take his first plane ride and vacation to Anchorage, Alaska this month, by the time we arrive Anchor town should have already passed through fall and winter should be starting.  Kai will go to his first pumpkin patch and dress up for Halloween.  That is a good chunk of firsts.  Kai is doing a great job sitting up.

This weekend was the monthly concert at the Waialua bandstand.  The Marine Corps band performed and Kai enjoyed the music.  He kicked his legs to the beat of the music and enjoyed watching all the other kids.
