Kai sees his first bear

On Kai's second trip to Alaska, he headed north to Fairbanks.  Arring right after the solistice we were able to enjoy 24 hours on sunlight.  And the mosquitos.  It is funny how quickly you forget the little things.  The temperature was in the 70's nearly everyday.

This week are are preparing for our trip to Alaska.  We ran errands and Kai was his cute self.  His words have been growing and he can now say, Mama, Pa, dog dog, bird, book, up, hot, buh-bye, ball and more.

This year Kai was able to spend Father's day with his Pa.  He and I started the day by going to pick up breakfast for his father.  Then we gave him all his gifts.  After breakfast, we walked to the beach, stopping at Travis' house.  Kai and Victor were able to pick fruit.  Kai found some on the ground and Victor climbed the tree.  We then walked over to the beach, while Kai napped everyone else enjoyed a refreshing swim.  After we all dried off we went into Haleiwa and then I made penne ala vodka for dinner.  Victor went on a long bike ride with Travis and when he came home Kai and I went on a bike ride with him.

What a week!  Kai met up with his friends Anthony and Halle and we all lunched at Cinnamon's in Kailua.  After lunch we went to the Windward Mall and rode the train around the mall.  Then Kai played in the playarea with his friends.  He was able to climb up everything and even slide on his own this time.  On Wednesday we went to the General's Change of Command.  Fun fact from that day was the outgoing General was a University of Scranton alum.  Kai loved spending time with his friends and was exhausted from all the fun.

After the pictures we spend some time at the aquarium before music class.  Kai loves it there and enjoyed watching the fish.  He really enjoyed all the other kids looking at the fish too.  I will have to take him back again when we have more time.  I did take enough pictures to make it look like we spent the whole day, there is something about a baby and fish.

Victor had off for work on a Monday.  We went to Turtle Bay together and then into Kahuku for lunch.  Kai loved playing in the ocean.  Of course we stopped and bought 5 mangos and 5 fresh coconuts.  Kai drank almost a whole coconut himself.  On the way home we briefly stopped at Sunset Beach so Victor could use the phone and spotted a Hawaiian monk seal.

Hello, June!  Summer is in full swing on the North Shore.  Kai finishes music class this month and we head on a family vacation to Alaska.  This time we are heading North to Fairbanks.  We plan to spend 2 days at Denali National Park so Kai can see the bears.

This month started with a concert in the park.  Olive and her mom joined us.  Kai ran around the whole time.  First he tried to storm the stage and then he just ran around having a blast.

Before music class we met up with Nicole the photographer and took some pictures for Kai's first birthday.  We went by the water and Kai of course ran in and was wet and sandy.

For Kai's first birthday, I scheduled an appointment with the local photographer we have been using.  I found an awesome photographer for an incredibly reasonable price through Groupon and this is the third time we have used her.  I have been having such a hard time catching Kai because he is always running away now.  Nicole was able to successful capture him.  Kai ran into the ocean and so he is a bit wet at the end.  But that is Kai.
