16 months

Banana fields we past every night

Kai is learning and growing so much every day.  He keeps getting taller.  He is a big helper and can close doors and turn on and off lights.  He tries to help putting his toys away but that can be distracting.  He loves to climb on anything and everything.  His vocabulary is rapidly expanding.  His favorite words are " Up, down, more, Caspi, no".  He is able to say the names of his baby sitters.  He surprises me with some of the words he can say.
Kai loves to grab your hand bring you some where and tell you down so that you will play with him.  He still has a wonderful sense of humor and loves to laugh.  He loves to be tickled and chased.  Kai is still a really good dancer and will turn music on so that everyone can dance.  Sometimes he still takes 2 naps a day but lately he has been taking one nice long one in the afternoon.  Some days when we are home and he is too busy playing to nap he will say bike, bike.  We will get on a bike ride to the ocean where he will look at the ocean and then fall fast asleep.  It makes for a good workout for me.  Kai is taking another semester for music class taught by his friend McKenzie's mom Chelsea.  He has playdates almost weekly with his friends Olive, Halle and Austin.  He sees his friend Mark Dale about once a month too.  Kai likes to play with Keegan who lives behind us.  There are knots in the wood fence and they take turns sticking there fingers in to each other.  Kai cut three molars this month.  His amber necklace broke and it was a long 2 weeks before I had it repaired.  Kai sleep has not been so good and he wakes in pain from his teeth. Hopefully, this will end soon.  Kai can walk Caspian now.  Caspi typically goes for 3 walks a day.  Kai will walk him in the afternoon when we do a short walk because of the heat to the Dole offices.  Caspian is really good for him and Kai thinks it fun.  Until he becomes distracted by a chicken or flower.  We try to go the park twice a day.  We usually are successful with at least one visit.  I read that this should curb his climbing. (It doesn't but it tires him out.)  We have been going to the beach with my friend Courtney and taking advantage of her living so close to us.  Even if we spend an hour, Kai is able to swim and play at the park.
Kai still loves fruit the best out of any food.  He prefers watermelon, grapes, blueberries, bananas, papaya and mango.  He is a good eater and will try anything.  He is not a big meat eater unless he is at Costco then he will try all the samples.

Busy September

Mohawk

As I try to play catch up with the blog here are a variety of pictures.  We went back to Waimea Falls with Lauren and swam in the waterfall.  Victor came home for a weekend and we were able to spend some time biking around Haleiwa.  Kai and Halle were sitting sweetly in the costco wagon. And Kai has new shoes to get him through the winter.  Finding sandals in Hawaii in the winter can be difficult.

Grand Canyon of Hawaii

Kauai is know for the Grnad Canyon of Hawaii.  We took a tour of this and it was stunning.  Kai was even able to feed the local chickens.  Kai feeds chickens at home too so he was really good at it.  We also took a boat cruise up the Wailua river to the fern grotto. Another Wailaua on Kauai, yes.  waialua means two rivers in Hawaiian.  So, it is a common name in the islands. On the way back to shore there were hula dancers.  Of course, Kai was right up in the action.

Barking Sands, Kauai

My high school friend, Lauren came to visit.  She was interested in island hopping so Kai and I joined her for a trip to Kauai.  We stayed at Barking Sands Missile Facility in a cottage on the Pacific Ocean.  Our cottage had views of dolphins, and the island of Niihau.  Most intersting were the birds that nest under the cottages and make noises similar to a crying baby.  Sure enough I would wake up at night and stare at Kai peacefully sleeping while the birds called.
While on the garden isle, we stopped at Kauai Coffee and checked ou their coffee plantation.  Kai enjoyed playing on the beach and at totland.

Splash Park

Schofield Barracks has several splash parks.  Kai loves them.  He runs as fast as he can through the water and examines where the water comes from.  We now schedule playdates here.

Caspian's Birthday

Caspian turned 11 and we celebrated his birthday with a trip to the beach.  Caspi rarely go for rides in the car because the Prius is small and we can wwalk everywhere.  For his birthday, I drove him to a local beach.  His birthday presents were more of a hit with Kai.  We saw several turtle and a golden retrievor while playing at the beach.

Ball Pit

We are lucky to have wonderful neighbors here.  Our neighbors bought Kai his own ball pit.  They drove around to several stores to find the perfect one.  The best part is they keep it at their house.  So now when Kai is baby sat he plays in his own ball pit.  Kai loves it.

Happy Labor Day

Labor Day weekend.  Kai was busy playing with his friends at the playground, farmers market, the beach, his ball pit and the bandstand.  We were very busy.  THis month's performers were the Royal Hawaiian Band.  They always put on a good show  We only stayed for 30 minutes this time because someone kept trying to walk into the street.  The 30 minutes were well spent dancing to the music.
