Position du jour

Kai has mastered rolling to his stomach.  However, returning to his back is not his forte.  Last night he became very upset when he was stuck in his crib on his belly and needed to be rescued.  All day, he keeps rolling over being content for a few minutes and then becoming upset that he is stuck.

On Monday, during the LLL meeting, he rolled over to his belly but was perfectly content to watch all the other babies and toddlers for over 5 minutes before needing to be flipped back.

Kai is still all smiles.  After eating he has the biggest grin.  Kai Kai still stops halfway through his meal to talk about it.  This weekend, I was feeding him before we left the house and Victor heard Kai talking and asks if we are finished.  It was only Kai having his mid meal discussion.

Caspian Giggles

Kai has been intently watching Caspian for the past week.  Today Caspi was being extra funny.  Here is my attempt to capture it.

Sunny day in the park

Kai and I ventured to Hickam Air Force Base to check out their beach as we had heard it was kid-friendly. We found a beautiful park with a cool wind.  Here is a video from our time there.  We plan to go back here again.  Crystal clear water, shade, lots of free parking and beautiful views.

15 pounds 3 ounces

Little Kai Guy had his 4 month check up today.  He was all smiles and giggles with all the staff.  The doctor stated that he was doing great and is very strong.  He weighed 15 pounds 3 ounces and 27 inches.  He also had his next round of shots.  He cried when the needle hit but quickly recovered.  Thankfully, I did not cry this time.  He slept on the ride home and is in good spirits now.  I am hoping this last.  His first rounds of shots he was up until 11pm with me pacing up and down to the sugar factory and back.

4 months old

Turtles love Kai

Victor wondering if the turtle would bite Kai :-)

Little Kai guy will be 4 months old tomorrow and is scheduled to get his 4 month shots at the doctor.  We went early this morning to a local North Shore beach to take his photos.  We went to Lanikea Beach also known as turtle beach.  There are plenty of turtles here but it has a good amount of tourists so I usually stick to our turtle beach.
Kai fell asleep the moment our feet hit the sand.  So we were able to take turns swimming until he woke up.  Once, Kai woke up we took his pictures.  Kai was super interested in looking at the ocean and turtles which shows off his pirate rash guard.   Then Kai went with his Pa for a swim.  Almost immediately, a turtle swam over to Kai.

Jumperoo

Kai is holding his head really well on his own, so I assembled his jumperoo. He loves it. He is still a bit short and has some trouble reaching the ground but with a blanket underneath he is a happy boy.

Today when we came home from our luncheon Caspian whacked his tail into the jumperoo causing it to make noise and Kai started laughing.  He may be a genius and realize that a dog in a jumperoo is funny or just recognizing the fun noise.

In other news Kai slept overnight in his crib.  I forgot to capture the moment on film but it was etched in my head and despite his being across the hall I slept with the monitor  next to my ear and after his night feeding,  I slept in his room with him.  There was no need for me to be there but I missed the little guy.

The video is from his first time in the Jumperoo.  Thanks to Aunt Kristin for buying Kai the jumperoo.

Giggles

The best sound in the world.

Playdate

Kai had his first playdate today with Halle who is 6 days younger then him. Halle had a great time, Kai napped through most of it. Kai shared all his toys. Halle's mom is a sweet girl from Wisconsin whose husband works with Victor. They live in the other side of the island but we hope to get them together again soon.

Getting ready for surf season

The winds have picked up and with that the surf on the North Shore has 6-8 foot waves. After a summer of flat water, the locals are everywhere with their surfboards. Kai was ready to check out the action at Pipeline with his hat on. The ocean should resume calmness for a few more weeks and then surfing season should start by mid October. It will not be long before Kai is joining everyone in the water. We may have to go to Waikiki or the Leeward side to find calm waters for little Kai Guy to swim in.

Bassinet

Kai has been sleeping in his bassinet in our room since we brought him home. However, this week all he has done is eat and sleep, meaning another growth spurt. I know I am pushing it keeping him in his bassinet and he does fine in his crib. I keep trying to find excuses to keep him in his bassinet longer, his room is too hot, his crib needs to move away from the window in his room or just one more night. Although the reality is he does not fit in it.

Decade of Caspian

Caspian Dumbledore turned 10 today. We walked to the beach and took turns throwing sticks or coconuts for him to retrieve. He went shopping to pick out new toys at Petco and played with the chocolate lab next door, Oppa. Caspi also had a chance to go see the Royal Hawaiian Band at the Waialua Bandstand. He was exhausted by the end of the day.

Caspian is a well traveled dog. He was born in Virginia and then lived in Massachusetts with me right on a river by the sea. He traveled all over New England. We then moved to Nassau County on Long Island and became a city dog, back to Coram, New York. From there Caspian drove cross country and took a 4 day ferry ride to Alaska. He traveled all over Alaska, hiked on glaciers, swan in rivers, ponds and went to Denali. At 7 he underwent back surgery because he was unable to walk due to fatty tissue in his spinal column. Then he went on another cross country trip through Canada to Delaware, NY and back to Missouri. He lived in Missouri and swam in the springs. He took his first plane ride to Hawaii, where he now resides in retirement. He still loves rides in the car, swimming in the ocean and hiking.

I included a clip from the Royal Hawaiian band, which was formed by King Kamehameha V, singing the Hawaiian state anthem.

Talking to himself

Kai loves to look in the mirror and talk to himself about his day. He appears to be taking after all the talkers in his family.
