Mele Kalikimaka

Christmas was another beautiful day in paradise.  Kai awoke to many spoils from Santa.  He loved his basketball hoop and his bike from pop pop.  I loved watching him open all his gifts.  It took most of the morning.  The neighbor boys stopped by and so did Kai’s babysitter and Kai was still opening presents.

December Beach Time

Kai loves the beach.  We spend lots of time there because I love it too.  We ride our bike or sometimes drive the Prius so we can bring Caspi.

Christmas Lights and Parade

Kai loves Christmas lights this year.  Thankfully, many of our neighbors have decked thier houses with lots of lights.  Every night Kai loves to look at the lights.  He calls snowman "syballs" and immediately asks for them in the evening.  Kai loves all the houses and syas " pretty, ohhh, ahh and whoa".  My favorite house has their lights flashing to Christmas music.  Our nightly walk has extended to see all the good lights.

Kai went to the Haleiwa Christmas Parade.  First we stopped at the St Michael’s craft fair and ate some delicious local thai food.  We also bought some chocolate covered pretzels.  Kai had fun playing in the rocks with his friends.  Then we went to the parade.  We had a great location on the grass near Haleiwa Cafe.  Kai, Olive and Mckenzie loved watching the parade.  There were lots of horses and lighted up trucks.  Our pockets were overflowing with candy by the end of the night.  Kai fell fast asleep on the car ride home.

Haleiwa Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas Parade through Haleiwa was on a Friday night.  Before Kai headed to the parade with his friends, Mckenzie and Olive, we all went to the St Michael's craft fair.  There was a large variety of food for sale so we ended up eating some food while shopping.  Kai had a blast running around and playing in the rocks with Mckenzie.  After we ate, we headed over to Haleiwa to secure a good location for the parade.  We were able to find plenty of room in a nice grassy area.  Kai loved the parades and all the lights.  He was given lots of candy.  The parade was exhausting and Kai fell fast asleep on the quick drive home.

Christmas Tree Farm

We went to Helamano Farms in beautiful Wahiawa to cut down our Christmas tree.  We walked through the tree forest and were able to find the perfect one.  Kai liked watching the man cut down the tree.  An interesting fact about the Hawaiian pines is that they regrew from the stump after they are cut down.  We had had dinner at Killer Tacos and then drove to see Christmas lights before setting the tree up.
Kai enjoyed redecorating the tree everyday.

Delay in Blogging

I have run out of free space for photos.  I am printing up the blog and then will be deleting entries to allow for more room.  I should be back up and running by the middle of December and apologize for the delay.

Toddler Bed

Kai has hated his crib for some time.  He climbs right out as soon as he goes in.  Toddler beds were on sale at babiesrus and I picked one up for him.  Victor quickly assembled it and I am working on getting Kai to sleep in it full time.  He likes to read books and jump on it.  Its a start.  Hopefully, he will quickly and successfully transition to this new bed.  Boy does he look cute in it.  Caspian also enjoys it.

Waialua Bandstand

This month it was the Navy Fleet Band's turn to perform at the Wailaua Bandstand.  Courtney and her mom joined us.  Kai had a blast running around the whole park.  He even had the chance to shake the maraca.  He also tried to taste it.

He was exhausted after all the running that he fell asleep while we walked Caspian at 630.  He is also battling a cough and running nose.  He is not sleeping through the night and just wants to cuddle.

Election Day

Kai and I anxiously awaited the results of the election this year.  Kai was indifferent to who won.  I had voted for Obama and Victor was in Romney camp.  We had a FRG meeting to attend but when we came home we were able to watch the speeches on TV.  Kai and I clapped together.

North Shore Bike Rides

Kai and I take a bike ride everyday.  In the evening, we go to the local park so Kai can blow off some steam before it gets dark.  In the morning, we change it up.  After walking Caspian, eating breakfast and vacuuming.  We will ride to see the horses or to see the turtles and the boats.  Kai is a big fan of either ride.  We also ride a couple times of week to Courtney's house to go to the beach with her.  Kai has sand toys he keeps at his house, so we are always ready to play.

On the weekends, Kai gets to ride with his Pa.  We go to the Haleiwa Cafe for breakfast of eggs benedict and papaya.  Kai likes to play in the dive shop while we wait for our food.  Then we bike by the boats and stop at the choo choo train park.

November

November came in fast, first the tsumani and then Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast.  It was a long week without being able to call Nana and tell her Kai indepentently went on the potty twice and asked for his diaper off.  Luckly, we survived.  Kai did have a runny nose and a cough.  Either from teething or a nasty bug Victor suffered from.  We still managed to have fun.  We went for lots of bike rides.  He went to the splash park with his friends and the zoo.  Kai loves monkeys.  It is his favorite animal sound to make complete with chest pounding.  Sometimes he wakes up and does it immediately.  So I bought a zoo membership.  I have more photo to upload of him at the Honolulu Zoo.  He just loves it.

Tsunami Warning

Monster Ball and view from our tsunami evacuation home.
Saturday was quite the busy day. We started the day with a bike ride to Haleiwa Cafe where we all got our usual.  Then we went to look at the boats in the harbor, stopped to watch the meheune surf contest and then to choo choo train park.  Rouding out hte bike tour with a stop at the Waialua Farmers Market.  After a busy morning we spent the rest of the day at the house.  We put Kai in the car to drive to Turtle Bay for their Halloween Party.  Kai was the cutest shark again.  After a stop at the fruit stand a few quick sunset photos, Kai joined the costume contest.  Then he went on the bounce house.  Of course he loved it and did not mind getting trampled by the big kids.  We visited the horses then went to the Kahuku Grill for dinner.  Kai enjoyed running around collecting pikake flowers and playing wiht the old sugar mill equipment while we waited for our food.  It was when we were leaving dinner that Victor got the call about the tsunami.  The line at the gas station had been crazy but I had chalked that up for it being closed on Sunday because it was run by Mormons.  We drove home, try to stop at Log's Drugs but they were already closed.  When we got home, the sirens were blaring and it was all over the radio.  The earthquake in British Columbia was 7.7 and could send a tsunami at 10:28 to Hawaii shores.  Out house is on the inudation line on the map.  I packed some clothes and diapers and drove Kai and I to my friend Chelsea's house who lives in the mountains of Waialua.  Kai had spent the previous night there when Victor and I went to the Monster Ball, so he was ready to play.  By 1030 nothing happened and Kai would not settle to sleep so I came off the mountain.  I had to drive around a police barricade who told me to enter at my own risk.  Kai and I were happy to sleep in our own bed and Caspi was thrilled to have his pack together.

Beach playdate

Kai running for the ocean

Kai, Halle and Mark Dale

On Tuesday, Kai had a playdate at the Ko Olina lagoons.  Kai and I had made cupcakes the night before for Jessica's birthday.  Kai had a great time playing in the water, on the rocks and then running around.  He enjoyed the company of Halle, Mckenzie, and Mark Dale.
