Monster Ball and view from our tsunami evacuation home. |
Saturday was quite the busy day. We started the day with a bike ride to Haleiwa Cafe where we all got our usual. Then we went to look at the boats in the harbor, stopped to watch the meheune surf contest and then to choo choo train park. Rouding out hte bike tour with a stop at the Waialua Farmers Market. After a busy morning we spent the rest of the day at the house. We put Kai in the car to drive to Turtle Bay for their Halloween Party. Kai was the cutest shark again. After a stop at the fruit stand a few quick sunset photos, Kai joined the costume contest. Then he went on the bounce house. Of course he loved it and did not mind getting trampled by the big kids. We visited the horses then went to the Kahuku Grill for dinner. Kai enjoyed running around collecting pikake flowers and playing wiht the old sugar mill equipment while we waited for our food. It was when we were leaving dinner that Victor got the call about the tsunami. The line at the gas station had been crazy but I had chalked that up for it being closed on Sunday because it was run by Mormons. We drove home, try to stop at Log's Drugs but they were already closed. When we got home, the sirens were blaring and it was all over the radio. The earthquake in British Columbia was 7.7 and could send a tsunami at 10:28 to Hawaii shores. Out house is on the inudation line on the map. I packed some clothes and diapers and drove Kai and I to my friend Chelsea's house who lives in the mountains of Waialua. Kai had spent the previous night there when Victor and I went to the Monster Ball, so he was ready to play. By 1030 nothing happened and Kai would not settle to sleep so I came off the mountain. I had to drive around a police barricade who told me to enter at my own risk. Kai and I were happy to sleep in our own bed and Caspi was thrilled to have his pack together.
